This lake is located near the Tsenkher River 35 km north of the main road to the east and northwest of Tsenkhermandal Sum, Khentii Aimag. The full name of the lake is Blue Black Heart Lake.
The area around the lake is a place of natural beauty, surrounded by a mountain, and is rich in various animal and plant species.
The Blue Lake is a very important place in Mongolian history, especially Chinggis Khan. At this point, Temuujin was enthroned as king of the united tribes of Mongolia and in 1189 was named “Chinggis Khan,” meaning Great King of the Ocean. In the Secret History of the Mongols, a chronicle book about Chinggis Khan’s life, place names such as Hoh-See, Kharzurh and Sengur Gorkhi were mentioned.
On one bank of the lake there is a monument dedicated to the 840th anniversary of the birth of Chinggis Khan, and wooden artworks of 36 royal or golden lineage kings have been placed in a crescent-shaped area with a diameter of 108 m around the monument.
